Divination is a universal cultural occurrence which being present in many religions and cultures in all ages up to the present day. Major decisions concerning everyday life are made only after consulting some form of divination. In terms of techniques, there are many divination methods of assessing future trends in someone’s life. If a distinction is to be made with fortune-telling, divination has a formal or ritual and often social character, usually in a religious context; while fortune-telling is a more everyday practice for personal purposes. In most cultures, one’s destiny can only be familiarized through a shaman, prophet, sibyl or seer.
